Broughton Family and ARC Resin Honored at Marietta Community Foundation's 2026 Philanthropy Awards

Washington County, OH - Legacy is often thought of as something we leave behind. But at Marietta Community Foundation's 2026 Philanthropy Awards, one message resonated throughout the evening: legacy is not something we leave behind someday—it is something we set in motion every single day.

Community leaders, donors, business partners, and past honorees gathered to celebrate the individuals and organizations whose generosity continues to shape Washington County and create opportunities for generations to come.

2026 Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year: The Broughton Family

The Broughton Family was honored with the prestigious 2026 Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year award in recognition of a legacy of generosity that has shaped Washington County for generations.

‍Their connection to Marietta Community Foundation dates back to its very beginning. When the Foundation was established in 1974, Carl Broughton's leadership helped lay the groundwork for an organization that continues to serve the community more than fifty years later. Since then, that same spirit of service has carried forward through generations of the Broughton Family, whose generosity can be seen throughout the region through the Broughton Nature and Wildlife Education Area, the Broughton Foundation, and countless partnerships and initiatives that have enriched the lives of local residents.

‍More than any one project or contribution, the family's impact is defined by a shared commitment to investing in the future of Washington County and creating opportunities for generations to come.

‍“This has always been a family effort,” said George Broughton. “We've been fortunate to have opportunities to give back over the years, and we're grateful to be part of a community that's meant so much to our family.”

2026 Outstanding Business of the Year: ARC Resin

‍The Outstanding Business of the Year award was presented to ARC Resin, recognizing a simple but powerful truth: sometimes the most meaningful philanthropy begins with a willingness to say ‘yes’.

‍During Marietta Community Foundation's 2025 Stock the Shelves Nonprofit Challenge, an extraordinary outpouring of generosity from the community created an unexpected need. As thousands of food and personal care items were donated to support local food pantries, the Foundation quickly found itself without adequate space to sort, store, and distribute the donations.

‍ARC Resin never hesitated to step in and help. What could have been a logistical challenge instead became a powerful example of partnership in action. By opening their warehouse doors and lending their time and resources, ARC Resin helped transform a moment of uncertainty into one of the Foundation's greatest successes.

‍“On behalf of the ARC Resin family, thank you for this incredible honor,” said Michelle Brooker. “We love the Foundation and all that it does for our community, so when there was an opportunity to help, we were happy to say yes. We believe strong communities are built through partnership, and we're grateful to play even a small role in supporting the important work happening every day across our community.”

A Legacy Set in Motion

As the evening came to a close, one theme remained clear: philanthropy looks different for everyone, but every act of generosity has the power to create lasting change.

“Legacy in motion means understanding that the choices we make today become the opportunities someone else experiences tomorrow,” said Heather Allender, President & CEO. “What I'm most grateful for is that this community never waits for someone else to step forward. Time and time again, individuals, families, and businesses choose to be part of the solution, and that's what makes Washington County such a special place. It is a privilege for Marietta Community Foundation to walk alongside these generous people and help turn their commitment to our community into lasting impact.”

‍Marietta Community Foundation extends heartfelt congratulations to this year's award recipients and deep gratitude to every individual, family, business, and partner who continues to invest in Washington County. Together, they are proving that legacy is not something reserved for the future—it is something being set in motion every single day.
