Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, dedicated to investing in students' futures, we administer more than 50 scholarship funds through an open application process. Please note that the majority of our scholarship recipients are chosen by representatives from the school system and therefore do not require an application.

Scholarship information, guidelines and applications are also distributed to the guidance departments of our local schools.
 

Steps To Get Started With Our Scholarship Application Process:

  1. Review the scholarship timeline below for important dates.

Scholarship Timeline:

Mid December— Scholarship Applications are available to the general public.

January - Mid March — Complete and submit scholarship application, along with all support materials to the Marietta Community Foundation. Applications must be submitted by Friday, March 16th, 4:00 p.m.

April - Early May — Scholarship Committees meet and select recipients.

Mid - Late May — Recipients will be notified of their selection during their High School Senior Awards Ceremony.

       2.  Review the requirements of each application to confirm your eligibility.

       3.  Download, complete and submit application, along with all support

            materials to the Marietta Community Foundation, P.O. Box 77, 100 Putnam

            Street, Marietta

 

Available Scholarships:
 

David C. Barrett Sr. Memorial Scholarship

This $500 Scholarship is to be awarded to a senior attending Warren High School or a Warren senior at the Washington County Career Center with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or above. The student must plan on pursuing a post-high school degree at an accredited institution with a goal of working in the field of agriculture or education.

Bee You Scholarship

The scholarship is valid in the Freshman year of the student’s education at an accredited technical college, 4-year college, or university. There is no specific curriculum the student must pursue. Student must be a current senior in a Washington County, Ohio or Wood County, West Virginia school. Scholarship is not renewable and can be used for books, supplies, tuition, and/or Room & Board.

Felicia Buell Year Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is open to all Marietta Senior High School students who would have at least one full year of high school remaining after the completion of the year abroad. All applications for the scholarship must by submitted in writing, addressed to: The Felicia Buell Year Abroad Scholarship, 613 Third Street, Marietta, OH 45750. Applications must be postmarked on or before February 28th, 2018.

Stanton W. Brock Art Discovery Scholarship

This $1,000 Scholarship is to be awarded to a senior who would like to continue his or her education by going to an art school. The Scholarship is not renewable. The recipient should be someone with demonstrated art talent and who will study art to become a more accomplished artist and has an intention to make art a vocation. This award is available to a senior attending any school in Washington County or surrounding areas.

Carpe Diem Athletic and Academic Scholarship

This $350 Scholarship is to be awarded to graduating seniors from Marietta High School. Qualified applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is a graduating senior from Marietta High School. Applicant must attend a 2 or 4-year accredited college or university. Applicant needs to have participated successfully in an area of athletics at MHS, using well the skills of a sport, showing team leadership, unselfishness, and sportsmanship on the playing surface.

Trae DeVolld Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is valid in the Freshman year of the student’s education at an accredited technical college, 4-year college, or university. Student must be a current senior at Caldwell High School or Shenandoah High School, Noble County, Ohio. There is no specific curriculum the student must pursue; however, they must participate in 4-H and/or sports programs. Applicants must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The Scholarship is not renewable

Edward Parrish Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century Scholarship

The scholarship is valid in the Freshman year of the student’s education at an accredited technical college, 4-year college, or university.  There is no specific curriculum the student must pursue. Student must be a current senior in a Washington County school (or a resident of Washington Co.) or a direct descendant of an Edward Parrish Chapter Member.  Scholarship is renewable for Sophomore year if student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Art Fordham Memorial Scholarship

This $1,500 Scholarship is to be awarded to graduating seniors attending the Washington County Career Center.  This scholarship may be used to obtain an Associate’s Degree or Vocational training.  The Scholarship is not renewable.

Frontier Ag Science Scholarship

This scholarship was established to provide funds for Agriculture students attending Frontier High School to obtain a post-secondary education.

Faustena "Frosty" Haas Health Care Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the life of Frosty Haas. This scholarship is available to any post-secondary student studying health care; however, greater weight will be given to students studying direct patient care, oncology, nursing, radiology or chemotherapy. This scholarship is renewable. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA in the prior quarter or semester of 2.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale to be considered for renewal.

Edwin "Jack" Haas Memorial Scholarship

This $1,000 Scholarship is to be awarded to any qualified individual who would like to continue his or her technical education in the fields of electronics, electrical, welding, pipe fitting, HVAC, fabrication, machinist or other approved technical training programs. Scholarship recipient must be a graduate or graduating senior of a Washington County School and must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. This scholarship may be used to obtain any post-secondary degree, Vocational training, or Adult Education courses, with greater weight placed on Community Colleges and Technical Training programs. Past recipients may re-apply for this scholarship.

Dr. Richard Hille Scholarship for Medical Students

Eligible applicants must have graduated from a Washington County High School, attended an undergraduate college in Ohio, and be enrolled in Medical School in Ohio. Preference will be given to those in Family Medicine. The Scholarship is renewable from the first to final years of medical school. The student must have a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for the initial scholarship and to be considered for renewals.

Terry Huck Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established to provide scholarships to Fort Frye High School graduates who have excelled in both scholastic and athletic efforts. This scholarship is available to current seniors of Fort Frye High School enrolled in college preparatory courses and participating in athletics. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify for the scholarship. This scholarship is renewable for three years.

Kevin O'Brien Kelly Memorial Scholarship

This Scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating Marietta High School senior planning to continue his or her education at Ohio University. The Scholarship is also available to Marietta High School graduates currently attending Ohio University. Scholarship recipient must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to qualify. This scholarship may be used to obtain an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree. The Scholarship is renewable for 4 years.

The John McCracken Memorial Scholarship

The John McCracken Memorial Scholarship was established by his family and friends to honor John’s lifelong commitment to providing opportunities for the children of our community. The scholarship is valid in the Freshman year of the student’s education at an accredited technical college, 4-year college, or university. There is no specific curriculum the student must pursue and at this time the scholarship is not renewable. This scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating Marietta High School Senior.

Marietta Soccer League Scholarship

This $1,500 scholarship is available to one male and one female each year who have participated in the Marietta Soccer League Program, earned a Varsity Letter in High School Soccer, and who have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students must be residents of Washington County. This Scholarship is not renewable.

James S. and Brenda A. Measell Scholarship

This $500 Scholarship is to be awarded to any qualified individual who would like to continue his or her education at an accredited 4-year college, or university, and is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree. Scholarship recipient must be a graduate or graduating senior of a Washington County School and must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Nancy A. Miller Memorial Scholarship

This $500 Scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior who would like to continue his or her education in the fields of Math, Sciences, Education, Information Technology, or Engineering. Scholarship recipient must be a graduating senior of Fort Frye High School and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship may be used to obtain an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Vocational training.

Greg Schilling Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Greg Schilling and will be awarded to students that exhibit qualities of compassion and caring for others. This $1,000 Scholarship is available to current seniors at Waterford and Fort Frye High Schools. This scholarship is non-renewable.

Charlie Spindler Athletic Memorial Scholarship

This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Marietta High School Boys Basketball player who leads by example. A player who puts forth a maximum effort and represents the school, the community, the team and his family with class. Eligible applicants must be current seniors of Marietta High School, participate in MHS Basketball, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students must be planning on pursuing a post-high school degree at an accredited institution.

Mark C. Studenic Memorial Scholarship

This $500 Scholarship is to be awarded to any qualified individual who would like to continue his or her education in the fields of Science, Technical, Engineering, or Math. Scholarship recipient must be a graduate or graduating senior of a Washington County School and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship may be used to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, Vocational training, or Adult Education courses. The Scholarship is not renewable. Thomas C. Vadakin Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a current senior or previous graduate of Marietta High School. Eligible applicants must be pursuing a career in the Engineering or Business fields and must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The Howard and Molly Varner Scholarship

The scholarship is valid in the Freshman year of the student’s education at an accredited technical college, 4-year college, or university. Student must be a current senior at Warren High School, Washington County, Ohio. There is no specific curriculum the student must pursue. Applicants must also have a minimum GPA of 2.0. This scholarship is valid in the freshman year of the student’s education, and is renewable for up to three years as long as a minimum 2.0 GPA is maintained.. Amount of the scholarship is $2,500.
